Giant Claws

Danville Zoological Park & Botanical Gardens
Friday November 2
1:00 p.m.

It is a warm day in Danville. A botanical garden has been open for a week now. There are beautiful flowers and trees all around the place.
"A week this place has been open and it is already an attraction," said a worker.
"Yeah, too bad that it is autumn and these flowers will soon wilt," said another.
As the workers headed off to the entrance, they notice something.
"Hey man, look at that tree. It looked like that an animal clawed in up."
"What animal has claws like that?"
They then heard something.
"What was that?"
They looked over and saw a few small dinosaurs resting under a tree.
"What are those?"
"I have no idea, but I think they spotted us."
The little dinosaurs just screeched at the two workers. They then quickly looked up and turned the other.
"Where did they go?"
"Or more importantly, where did this shadow come from?"
The workers then looked up and saw a huge animal look down at them. The creature lunges its jaws at them and swallows them whole. It then walks off onto a large open area.

2:50 p.m.
Danville High School

At the high school, Phineas and the guys are all hanging out on the bleachers like always. They were talking about the events that occurred yesterday.
"You know Alex," said Phineas. "That was a brave thing you did to take down an Andrewsarchus.
"Yeah, well it wasn't easy," said Alex.
"By the way," said Django. "How was your date with Holly last night?"
"It was good. She seemed to have a great time. We just had dinner and hanged out for a while."
"Did you two make out?" said Buford.
"Buford!" said Django.
"What? It was just a question."
"No we didn't make out Buford," said Alex. "But she did kiss me."
"How long was it?" said Buford.
"Do you really need to know the details?"
"Maybe."
"Come on Buford," said Irving. "Leave Alex alone."
"Okay."
Buford then looks at Baljeet.
"You're pretty quiet today, 'Jeet," said Buford. "What's up?"
"Nothing really," said Baljeet. "Just thinking."
Buford then tries to pinpoint out where Baljeet is looking at. He can see Baljeet watching the girls, mainly Ginger.
"When was the last time you and Ginger hanged out," said Buford.
"It was when she invited me to go to the lake with her, which was where we were nearly attacked by that Jaekelopterus."
"I remember that," said Alex.
"Have you tried you ask Ginger out before?" said Django.
"No, not really."
"Why don't you?" said Django.
"I don't really know. I guess I don't really know how to give a girl a fun time."
"But Ginger seems to like to be with you?" said Phineas.
"I know," said Django. "Are you doing anything today?"
"No."
"Then here is a suggestion."
Django pulls out a pamphlet and hands it to Baljeet.
"Danville Zoological Park & Botanical Gardens," said Baljeet as he was reading the title.
"Doesn't that look like a place that she would enjoy?" said Django.
"I suppose so."
"Then what are you sitting here for," said Buford. "Go ask her out."
"Okay…okay I'm going to."
Baljeet gets up from his seat and walks over to Ginger.
"Think it's time for us to leave anyway," said Phineas.
The guys then left the bleachers, but Buford and Django decide to stay behind a brick wall to see 'Jeet ask Ginger out.
"Alright girls," said Isabella. "That's enough practice for today."
The girls then headed towards the locker rooms. Ginger notices Baljeet walking up to her.
"Hey Baljeet," said Ginger. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing okay. You girls are doing a great job with your cheerleading skills."
"Thank you."
The two went quiet for a few seconds.
"So Ginger, are you doing anything today?"
"No why?"
"Well I wondering if you would like to hang out with me today."
Ginger eyes just widened for a second. She then smiled.
"I would love to hang out with you. What do you have in mind for us?"
"Actually it is a surprise."
"A surprise?"
"Yeah, I can walk by your house and pick you up and then we can walk over together."
"Okay. Do I need to wear anything fancy like a dress?"
"No, you can just wear your casual clothes."
"Alright, then I will be waiting for you at my house."
Ginger then touches Baljeet's arm and rubs it. She then heads to the locker room to get changed. Baljeet just walked off still warm from when Ginger rubbed his arm. Buford and Django then walk away from the wall.
"So…"said Buford.
"She said yes," said Baljeet.
"See," said Django. "You can ask a girl out yourself without waiting for a girl to ask you first."
"I guess I can."
"Well I will be heading home," said Buford. "Let me know how it all goes buddy."
"Okay Buford see ya. See ya Django."
"See ya man."
The guys went off to their homes.

3:35 p.m.
Hirano House

Baljeet arrives at Ginger's house and knocks on the door.
"Hello Baljeet," said Mrs. Hirano.
"Hi Mrs. Hirano," said Baljeet. "Is Ginger here?"
"Yes, she is just about ready. Ginger!! Baljeet is here!"
"Okay mom. I'll be right down."
"Now Baljeet…"
"I'll take very good care of her, Mrs. Hirano."
"I know you will. You are a polite young boy."
Ginger then walks down the stairs. Baljeet just gazed at her appearance. She was wearing a pair of skinny jeans and a sleeveless shirt that was showing her belly button.
"Hey Baljeet," said Ginger. "I'm ready."
"Okay then," said Baljeet trying to snap out.
"Is something wrong?"
"No, nothing's wrong at all. You look great in your outfit."
Ginger just blushes.
"Thank you. It used to been my sister's.
"Ginger, before you two leave can I get a picture?"
"Okay mom, just one photo."
Ginger wraps her arm around Baljeet and places her hand on his chest. Baljeet felt his heart pounding, but calmed down enough to wraps his arms around Ginger. Mrs. Hirano then takes the picture.
"Good job. You two are adorable together."
The two just blushed at each other.
"Now go out and have fun."
"Okay, bye mom."
The two headed out to their destination.

4:00 p.m.

"So Baljeet, where are you taking me?"
"You'll see."
Baljeet and Ginger walked around the corner and right in front of them was an entrance and a sign.
"Welcome to the Danville Zoological Park & Botanical Gardens," said Ginger reading the sign. "This is the surprise."
"Yes," said Baljeet nervously. "I wanted to try something different than a simple dinner or a movie. Is that okay with you?"
Ginger notices Baljeet's nervous look. She just smiles and hugs the Indian boy tightly.
"I am very okay with it. This is a wonderful surprise Baljeet. I've wanted to come here for a while now."
"Really?"
"Really, really."
"Okay, let's go."
The two then headed inside the park.

4:30 p.m.

Over the past hour, the two best friends have fed the flamingoes, held some macaws, and went through the reptile house. They then went to a bench to have some drinks.
"Are you having fun Ginger?"
"I am having so much fun, Baljeet. It's much better than just staying at home doing nothing."
"Yeah said it."
The two just sat together. They then looked at each other and just smiled. Baljeet's smile then turns into a concerned look.
"What's wrong Baljeet?"
"There is something on that tree behind you."
Ginger turns around.
"Are those claw marks on that tree?"
"Looks like it-and big ones too. It looks like whatever made those marks had claws three feet in length."
"But Baljeet, what kind of animal has claws like that?"
"I don't know."
Baljeet then looks at the hedge that is behind them.
"Weren't there more leaves on this hedge before?" said Baljeet.
The two then looked up and saw a huge animal near the tree. It had a tiny head, long neck, long arms, and extremely long claws.
"What is that Baljeet?" said Ginger. "It looks like some kind of dinosaur."
"Yes it does. Which means that an anomaly must have opened somewhere here in the gardens."
The large animal looks down at the two friends. It gives out a noise at them. Ginger hides behind Baljeet's back.
"Hey you leave us alone you," said Baljeet.
But the dinosaur just looks at them with curiosity.
"It doesn't seem to be aggressive," said Ginger.
Baljeet then notices a branch full of leaves lying on the ground. He picks it up and gives it to the giant, which then picks off the leaves one by one.
"She likes it," said Baljeet.
Baljeet then picks up his phone and calls Phineas.
"Hey Phineas. Ginger and I are at the Zoological Park and we think there is an anomaly somewhere around here."
"We're on our way," said Phineas.
Phineas hangs up his phone and the gang rush over to the zoo. After he and Ferb left there house, Perry heads to his headquarters.
"Good evening Agent P," said Major Monogram. "We are not quite sure what Doofenshmirtz is up to, but we notice him earlier walking into the Zoological Park & Botanical Gardens with some small device. You better inspect it."
Perry then gets onto his hover craft and heads to the zoo.

4:50 p.m.

Phineas and the others arrive at the park.
"There they are," said Gretchen.
"What on Earth is that?" said Buford. "That is the weirdest-looking dinosaur I've ever seen."
"That's why we were waiting for you guys to show up," said Baljeet.
"It's a Therizinosaurus," said Irving. "It lived in Mongolia during the late Cretaceous period, and was the theropod dinosaur with the longest claws."
"We can see that," said Alex.
"Yeah, but who would have known that a dino with humongous claws can be such a softy," said Ginger.
The dinosaur feeds on some branches that Baljeet has been holding.
"So it's a theropod like Tyrannosaurus, but it eats plants?" said Adyson.
"Yes," said Irving. "That's what makes the therizinosaurids such unique dinosaurs. They are one of the few groups of theropods that feed on plants, along with oviraptorids and ornithomimids. Those claws are mainly just used to break down branches to get at soft leaves, but they can be used as a defense against predators."
"Predators," said Ginger. "Like what?"
"Well back in late Cretaceous Mongolia and China, it was a predator's paradise. You had troodontids like Philovenator, Saurornithoides, and Zanabazar. You had dromaeosaurs like Linheraptor, Tsaagan, and Velociraptor, of course. And then there were tyrannosaurs like Alectrosaurus, Alioramus, and the terrifying Tarbosaurus."
"Gosh," said Django. "With that many predators to deal with, I can see why Therizinosaurus needed those claws."
"Yes, mainly because the animal can't run very fast, which is probably why the therizinosaurids are nicknamed the "sloth dinosaurs."
The dinosaur just looks at Baljeet.
"She seems to like you Baljeet," said Ginger.
"Yeah, like someone else we know," whispered Buford to Django and Alex.
"Alright gang, we better find this anomaly before it closes and this dino get trapped or more dinosaurs come through," said Phineas.
"Okay," said Baljeet. "Come on Therizinosaurus. You know I think I'll call you…Theonna."
"Theonna, that's a beautiful name Baljeet," said Ginger.
The dinosaur just bellows.
The gang then headed out of the main park to find the anomaly.

5:00 p.m.

Elsewhere, Perry lands into the flamingo exhibit. He manages to get out and heads out to find Doofenshmirtz. He walks away from the park some and finally finds Doof wandering around. He then jumps in front of him.
"Oh hello, Perry the platypus," said Doofenshmirtz.
Perry then points at the object.
"Oh you are wondering what this is. This is my noise-inator. It does kinda look like an ordinary air horn, because it is an ordinary air horn…with some modifications of course. You see Perry the platypus for the past several weeks now, I've been trying to spread evil through the Tri-State Area like always but these prehistoric creatures that keep popping out of anomalies don't make it any easier. That is why I made this device. Most animal don't like loud noises, so whenever any creatures comes near me, I'll blast them with loud sound and hopefully scare them off. It's genius, right."
Perry just gave an unamused look.
"I'm here at the Danville Zoological Park & Botanical Gardens where an anomaly has opened to test this baby out, in case I find any prehistoric predator that wants to try and eat me."
Perry just rolled his eyes.

5:15 p.m.

Meanwhile, Phineas and the gang are still searching for the anomaly.
"Anything Ferb," said Phineas.
"Not yet," said Ferb.
"Hey guys," said Isabella. "Is it just me or does the vegetation here seems to get fewer and fewer as we keep going?"
"I think she's right," said Milly. "It's like a whole herd of herbivores have been through here."
"Yeah and they are right over here," said Holly.
The gang walks over to find a group of dinosaur feeding on the vegetation.
"Looks like a herd of hadrosaurs and some small ceratopsians," said Phineas.
"Yep," said Irving. "Those hadrosaurs are Tsintaosaurus, which are easily recognized by their tall pole-like crest on their head."
"Are they there so they can play horseshoes?" said Buford.
The gang just looked at Buford bizarrely.
"No Buford," said Irving. "First of all, there were no horses in the Cretaceous period. Those crests are mainly for display to attract females."
"It was just a joke," said Buford. "Doesn't anyone here know sarcasm?"
"I've counted six Tsintaosaurus and four of those little horned dinosaurs," said Gretchen. "I'm guessing they are Protoceratops."
"Very good Gretchen," said Irving. "You are correct, they are Protoceratops. They are smaller cousins of large horned dinosaurs like Triceratops and Torosaurus."
"Except without the horns," said Alex.
"Pretty much, but they do have sharp beaks that can snap a tree branch as thick as a human's arm."
"In other words, we better be careful with those little herbivores," said Adyson.
Theonna then walks over to join the herbivores in the feeding.
"They don't seem that intimated by Theonna," said Ginger.
"Maybe it's because they know she is not a threat to them," said Baljeet.
As the dinosaurs continued to feed, one of the Protoceratops began to give out a stress call.
"What's the matter with him?" said Katie.
Just then, four dinosaurs burst out of the bushes and snarls out the herbivores.
"Velociraptors," said Irving.
"So those are Velociraptors," said Buford. "Not as big as Deinonychus."
"No, but they are just as dangerous," said Isabella.
The raptors began to surround the herd to find an easy target. One of them tries to charge at a Protoceratops, but the dinosaur just snaps its jaws. The raptor backs away. Then it leaps on top of Phineas.
"Phineas!!" yells Isabella.
Phineas is still barely standing but with the Velociraptor climbing on him. The Protoceratops then charges and hits the raptor right off of Phineas. The raptor gets back up and snarls at the little ceratopsians. The Tsintaosaurus then walk up and bellow loudly at the little predators. The Velociraptors realize that they are outnumbered and retreat.
"Phineas are you okay?" said Isabella.
"Yeah, I think," said Phineas in pain.
"That Velociraptor got you good with its claws," said Baljeet.
"If it bitten him it would have been worse," said Irving.
"Here Phineas, sit on this rock for a minute," said Isabella.
Phineas sits on the rock and Isabella gets out a first aid kit.
"Even though you are no longer fireside girls, you still come prepared," said Phineas.
"Yeah, well us girls are still a team. Now this may sting a little Phineas."
Isabella gets out some peroxide and a cotton ball and wipes it on Phineas' scar. Phineas cringes a little from the liquid.
"Does it sting?"
"A little."
"Well, it will help the wound not get infected."
"Thanks Izzy."
"Well," interrupted Buford. "Now that you two have had your moment, are we going to find that anomaly before those raptors come back?"
"Right," said Phineas. "Let's go gang."
The fourteen teenagers continue their trek along with Theonna, the Protoceratops, and the Tsintaosaurus.

5:30 p.m.

In another part of the park, Doofenshmirtz and Perry are just wandering around.
"That anomaly has to be around here somewhere."
Then, Perry notices something is moving in the bushes.
"What is it Perry the platypus?"
The pack of Velociraptors run out of the bushes and snarls at Doof and Perry.
"Yikes, Velociraptors!" yells Doof.
The raptors crept closer towards them.
"Now is a perfect opportunity to test out my noise-inator. You might want to cover your ears Perry the platypus."
Perry covers his ears and Doof fires the inator which gives out a loud sound.
HONK!!
The raptors shake their heads side by side.
"You see Perry the platypus."
HONK!!
"They can't stand the sound of my noise-inator. Think about all the evil purposes this gadget can be used as. If this can deal with Velociraptors, maybe it can be used on the citizens of Danville. NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW…"
Suddenly a large animal bursts out a huge roar at Doofenshmirtz, which also scares off the Velociraptors.
"A Tarbosaurus," said Doof. "It must have been sleeping and then this woke it up."
The large tyrannosaur just growls at Doof loudly with anger and irritation that it was woken up. HONK!!
The dinosaur just roars out loud again.
"I guess this gadget only makes bigger predators angry. Well it has been nice knowing you Perry the platypus, so see ya."
Doofenshmirtz takes off and so does Perry. The Tarbosaurus then begins to chase Perry around the open field near the park.

5:45 p.m.

Phineas and the gang have finally found the anomaly after walking around the park for half an hour.
"Man this is a big zoo," said Holly.
"Gives you some good exercise though," said Buford.
"Well at least we found the anomaly," said Phineas.
"It's now time to say goodbye to our scaly and feathery friends," said Isabella.
Phineas walks towards the Protoceratops.
"Thank little buddy for saving me from that Velociraptor."
The sheep-sized herbivore just bellows at Phineas as if he understood him.
"See ya Tsintaosaurus," said Buford. "Next time you come here to Danville, we can play horseshoes or ring toss with those crests of yours."
The hadrosaurs just looked at each other as if they did not understand what Buford just said. Baljeet and Ginger then walk up to Theonna.
"See ya Theonna," said Ginger. "You take care of yourself."
"Yes," said Baljeet. "Watch out for those Velociraptors."
The Therizinosaurus just nudges her little head against Baljeet and Ginger.
"I guess that is the dinosaur equivalent to a hug," said Alex.
"Well she probably could hug them, but she might accidently scratch them with her claws," said Ferb.
The friendly theropod calls out to the Protoceratops and the Tsintaosaurus to tell them to head back home.
"Well that's been taken care of," said Milly.
"Yeah," said Gretchen. "Except I just thought of something."
"What?" said everyone.
"What about the Velociraptors? Did they go through the anomaly already?"
Everyone just looked at each other.
"Look!" yelled Django.
The pack of raptors comes running out of the forest and onto the fields.
"There they are," said Irving.
"And they are coming towards us," said Adyson.
The raptors then run past the gang and the herd of herbivores and through the anomaly.
"They just past us," said Buford.
"Or maybe they are running away from something else," said Katie.
"Yeah but what?" said Phineas.
"Like maybe that!" yells Isabella.
Out of the forest comes the Tarbosaurus roaring out loud.
"It's a Tarbosaurus," said Irving. "An Asian relative of Tyrannosaurus."
The giant carnivore then runs up to the gang.
"Scatter!" yells Phineas.
Everyone then takes off to get away from the theropod. The Tarbosaurus stops to look around and pinpoint to find a perfect target. Baljeet then trips and hits his head against a rock.
"Ouch!" yells Baljeet.
The Tarbosaurus notices Baljeet and walks up to him.
"Oh no, Baljeet!" screamed Ginger.
Theonna, who was watching what was going on, sees Baljeet is in trouble and rushes over. The tyrannosaur sniffs Baljeet and can smell blood from his head.
"Whatever you do, don't move," said Buford.
"Uh Buford," said Irving. "That theory has been proven wrong, since tyrannosaurs had good eyesight and a good sense of smell."
"Oh well then just sit there and try not to look so tasty."
Baljeet just sat against the rock horrified by the large teeth of the predator. The dinosaur begins to open its humongous jaws when Theonna comes right behind it and screeches very loudly at the carnivore. The Tarbosaurus turns around to face the long armed dino. The dino sways her claws back and forth at it. She then stands in front of Baljeet trying to protect him.
"Looks like we are about to see how those claws work in defense mode," said Irving.
"Who's got twenty on the Therizinosaurus?" said Buford.
The Tarbosaurus snaps its jaws at Theonna.
"Whoa, that was close," said Alex.
The theropod then goes for another snap, but Theonna then whacks the carnivore on the side of its head.
"Oooh," said Holly. "That's got to hurt."
The Tarbosaurus then backs down and walks back through the anomaly. Theonna then walks to Baljeet to see if he is okay.
"You just saved my life," said Baljeet. "Thank you."
Theonna just squawks at him and licks the boy. Baljeet then gets back onto his feet. The rest of the gang ran over.
"You okay man?" said Phineas.
"I'm fine, thanks," said Baljeet.
Milly turns around and notices something is wrong.
"Uh guys," said Milly. "The anomaly just closed."
"What?" said everyone.
They all looked back and can see the anomaly is gone.
"Well what are we going to do with Theonna?" said Ginger.
"I know," said Phineas. "We will just take her to the menagerie at the ARC."
The gang then headed over to the ARC. Perry then walks out of the bushes.
"Oh, there you are Perry," said Phineas.
Perry just chatters.

6:30 p.m.
Danville ARC

The gang has helped Dr. Hunt get Theonna into an enclosure.
"Welcome to your new home Theonna," said Baljeet. "At least until the anomaly reopens to late Cretaceous Mongolia."
The Therizinosaurus just nudges Baljeet and walks around to check out her new home. Baljeet walks out of the enclosure.
"Baljeet," said Ginger. "How is your head?"
"It feels fine."
"Sit down for a second. I want to look at it."
Baljeet sits down and Ginger looks at his head.
"You make a good nurse you know that."
"Thanks. I guess I get it from my mom."
"That's true."
"You got hit pretty well, but it will be okay."
"Thanks Ginger. And also I'm sorry if our date didn't really go as planned."
"Are you kidding me? We spent time together at the zoo, got some good photos of us, we befriended the dinosaur with the longest claws, wrangled with a pack of Velociraptors, and survived from a Tarbosaurus. I had a wonderful day. Even though it was life-threatening."
Baljeet and Ginger just laughed together.
"So when is our next date," said Ginger.
"You still want to hang out with me?"
"Of course I do."
"Well I don't know exactly."
"That's okay. Let's check on with the others."
The two friends ran over to their friends and Dr. Hunt.
"Sounds like you guys had an exciting day," said Dr. Hunt.
"We sure have," said Isabella.
"Well now Theonna is a new addition to the menagerie. We will make her feel right at home."
"Okay then," said Baljeet.
Phineas then notices a large book lying on Dr. Hunt's desk.
"What's that book on your desk?" said Phineas.
Dr. Hunt quickly covers the book up.
"Oh, that I will tell you kids about later. It's something I'm working on right now."
The gang just gave a confused look.
"Okay…then I guess we will see you later then," said Phineas.
"Alright bye kids."
"Bye doc!!"
"Say Ginger," said Baljeet. "It is only 6:40. Do you still want to hang out for another hour or more? Maybe we can get something to eat or just get some ice cream."
Ginger just smiles.
"I'm alright with that."
The two friends walk out of the ARC.
"Huh, young love sure is beautiful," said Dr. Hunt to himself.
He then walks up to his desk to his new book he is working on.
"This would be a real challenge for them. I hope they realize there are some surprises in store with these anomalies."
Doc then walks away from his desk.
